Bapak will give some explanations concerning the way of the training ( latihan ) you have received, and worship of the One Almighty God.
The training all of you receive, ladies, every time you receive it, is really the worship of God, because it is made to grow, or awakened, or brought to life by God's power. When you receive the training, you are in a state where you do not think about it or try to feel it, but only receive it and put aside everything that is in your mind. The training you receive, which awakens and moves you - although not yet completely at full strength - is really an awakening which comes from the power of God. Certainly, it is God's will for us to go to God.
In reality, this training is the fruit of all man's efforts to calm his mind and clear his inner feeling - which is always confused - in order to discover a movement that comes not from the desires but from God's power. Therefore, although in your latihan you only seem to cry and laugh and make a few strange noises that have no meaning for you yet, it all comes from the soul ( jiwa ), not from the heart.
That is what people have been trying to find. Thus, the nature of the training all of you receive is, in reality, guidance and instruction that come from God Himself. Growth in the latihan is not by intention and is not influenced by the mind. It grows by itself.
Therefore, the training all of you have received is a training by God's power ( kodrat ), not an exercise of the will ( iradat ). The meaning of latihan of kodrat is a latihan that is willed by God and decreed by God and awakened by God. It is not an exercise of a mystical way ( tarekat ), that is, it is not an exercise awakened by man's effort with his thinking mind. This is why your receiving in the latihan cannot be as you would like it to be, children.
For example, you may want your latihan to be beautiful, like this ....but, having wished for that, when you do the latihan, it turns out like this . . . It is clear that, in reality, what is obtained in the latihan is not from man's will, thinking and desires. It is God's will.
Naturally, you will not be able to grasp and understand the will of God, because God is Almighty and All-wise. If God's wisdom and God's power could be understood by human beings, He would not be the One God. This is why Bapak tells all of you to have faith, and surrender to God everything that is in your inner feeling. Through the power of God, your inner feeling will be exercised from the coarse to the fine, from the fine to the coarse, from the visible to the invisible, until eventually you yourselves will be able to understand, because your understanding will have been exercised also.
For the present, it is really not yet time for you to receive the training ( latihan ) in your understanding, because God needs to awaken and cleanse the coarse part of you first. The coarse part is this visible body and its members, and also the organs that are inside it.
What is the reason why the training begins with the coarse part? Because this coarse part needs the understanding. The fine part doesn't need it, because when this coarse part is clean and good and clear, the fine part will become clean too, by itself. Also, the dirt, or all the sins you have experienced and possess, and which have struck your inner feeling, were caused by this coarse physical body.
Bapak can compare the purification from the coarse to the fine to a small child as he grows towards adulthood. The child begins by learning to walk, and by laughing, talking and crying. He is not given instruction immediately to enter university, because a small child is not yet able to be aware of the use of the things he will need for his studies. It is natural that the small child be taught how to live in the society of small children, so that when he grows up, he has no defect, and there is no change in his state.
Thus, suppose that you have a very strong wish, and supposing God were to comply with it, and you were able to see invisible things and hear things that do not exist here, then you would become completely confused and lose your bearings. If God gives you something now, you will only be given what is appropriate. You are not given a real weapon, for example. You are given a weapon for small children, a weapon that makes a noise but does not do any harm. So far, you have not yet acquired the real tools; you only have tools that are suited to children.
This being so, Bapak recommends patience to you, and hopes that you will be patient, because patience will speed things up, and you will grow more quickly. The will that expects to get something quickly only strengthens your desires and puts a stopper on the progress of your soul ( jiwa ). If you feel - in your heart, of course, because you are not yet able to understand, as the training ( latihan ) has not reached your understanding - a very strong wish to ask God to forgive you and to give you the right path, you can do this in the usual way. You can pray, or, in Islam, do the prayers in the ordinary way.
In the understanding of the desires and the thinking, that way reaches God. But in reality, it does not, because the person's utterances are not really for himself; they are merely a tool used by other forces manifesting within the selfhood of man. That is not so with the utterances you make in the latihan. Even if you only go, 'Er, er, er, eh, eh, eh, ah, ah, ah,' it is received, because that is a cry from the human soul ( jiwa ) and not from the other forces which suppress it.
Clearly, what you receive in the training ( latihan ) is the true worship of God. The real meaning of worship is not like this . .., or like this . . . It is when a human being or a creature carries out or sets in motion what is there within himself, in line with God's will. It's like when you work: you do not merely look to your boss and it is considered a service if, when the boss asks something, you call him 'Sir' and behave like this or like this. No, you do the work that has been given to you by the boss, and you do it well. That is service. The true worship of God is when you carry it out in the way that is willed by God. Usually, it is willed by the heart, which means it is not worship of God but worship of the heart, because one is influenced by whatever one sees, hears or feels.
The latihan you have received is a beginning for you, so that you can receive how is God's will for man to worship Him. Of course, you will not reach a high level quickly. You begin gradually, little by little. And, as you grow, little by little, you are also cleaned of the dirt and impurities that are in your inner feeling. When one day you have grown up in your soul ( jiwa ), you will not only be able to receive, but you will also be completely clean. Later on, you will also learn to laugh as God wills, to speak as God wills, to stand and walk as God wills, even to go to the shops as God wills.
In your true state, there will be no spare time or empty space; you will worship God constantly. This, in reality, is the latihan or exercise you have received. Do not think about it, do not make comparisons, and do not ask, 'What is it for?' or 'What does it mean?' and so on, because the teaching is from God, not from man. Certainly, when one day you receive, the only ones to know will be God and the human being, God and you yourself.
For the time being, you should stop asking questions like, 'What is the true way of worshipping God, because I only feel "Eh, eh, eh." Is that supposed to be worship?' Do not think about it. Just accept what you receive in the latihan, so that your soul ( jiwa ) will be able to grow quickly and smoothly without much hindrance and disturbance from your own heart.
If you still have the feeling, 'Ah, I don't feel satisfied if I don't remember my worship of God and His greatness,' you can remember at times, when you are quiet, like this: 'O God, forgive me, wipe out all the sins I have committed. And grant me, O God, the right way to You.' You can do this now and again. But, as Bapak said just now, however sincere you are within your heart, it is not exactly appropriate because it is not willed by God.
It is more appropriate when in your latihan you go, 'Er, er, eh, eh, eh.' That is more appropriate. It is more appropriate because it is God who makes you weep, so that you really feel your sins, and your wrong behavior and actions change and become good automatically.
This is different from when you are only quiet and ask God to forgive you, and then you go and do wrong again. There are many people who do that. In Islam, people pray every morning, every afternoon, every evening and every night. Their prayers also contain words asking forgiveness, that all their sins may be wiped clean, asking to be granted the right way to go to God, and asking that they will not do again the wrongs they have done. But they still do things that transgress what they have said. They still do things that are not right for themselves and for society. This is the very big difference between the latihan, which is received because of God's will, and an exercise of worship of God from one's own will.
Now, the latihan Bapak just mentioned, that is, the latihan that is awakened because of God, begins from the coarse part, this coarse physical body, and later goes deeper to the inner feeling. Both the coarse physical body and the inner feeling are cleaned. That purification also brings to life the real feeling of the power of the soul ( jiwa ). Certainly, it will of itself enter and go through the house of the inner feeling, which might be called the house of passion ( hartstocht ). There, it also moves and awakens, and the movement is not just one movement, for it clears away the movements that are always moving you there.
The house of passion, before it was cleared out and gone through by way of the training ( latihan ), contained all kinds of forces, from the material force to the animal force. All of that will certainly be cleared out. When you have made some progress in the latihan, and you have many movements, certainly you will feel very strong in the passion. The strength, or the strong feeling, of the passion is that which formerly oppressed and influenced you, and it has to be cleared out. It is not necessary to follow it or to carry it out. Just let it be, and then later, once it has been cleared out, it will come to be passion that is not animal, but passion that is in fact possessed by the human being.
In real terms, what Bapak calls passion from the true human being means that then you will not be attracted to just anyone, so a man will not like every woman, and a woman will not like every man. It will not be a matter of who is good, or who is better. However a man may be, you won't be attracted to him. You will only like the one willed by God, that is, your true partner. Consequently, if a man is with someone who is not his true partner, even if she uses enticing perfume, he will not like her. In the case of a woman, even if a man wears clothes that cost thousands of pounds and even if his speech is captivating - 'Ah, wear this, and this' - when you face him, you will only say, 'Oh, I see. Yes, yes,' without feeling anything at all.
But later, someone else may come along who is not like that, and may not be as handsome, but because God wills it, you feel, 'When I see him, it is as if I am seeing myself. When I see you, it is as if I love myself. When I look at you, it's not like someone else, it's like myself.' Even before the man has said anything, the woman suffers what he is suffering in his heart. When you are with him, the tears flow from your eyes. This means you are one, and he is your partner. After meeting him, he goes home one way and you go home the other. Then, when you are home, when you eat, you remember him; when you drink, you remember him; when you sleep, you remember him. 'How can I get free of this?' Later, you do latihan, and after the latihan, you murmur, 'Ah, he is the one! What am I to do?'
That is your partner; that is how it is. That is a marriage not because of the mind and heart, not influenced by wealth, not influenced by cleverness, not influenced by behavior, not influenced by anything; for indeed, they are one in their inner feeling - like a cigarette and a match, or a match and petrol: put them together, and they burn by themselves. If from their union in marriage they later have a child, the child will be one, not the child of two people.
Many people have children who are very different in nature from their parents, and sometimes they even have children who hate them. Why is that? Because the child was made from the passions, not from the union of souls ( jiwa ) that are united, so that if the wife dies she returns united in the inner feeling of the man's soul, and if the man dies first, he envelops the woman's soul.
For that reason, it is really God's will that the man is the first human being, before the woman. In reality, the man can do anything to the woman. Yes! If you think about this, you may say, 'Oh, in that case, the man has the power. But why? His head is the same, his limbs are the same, and I can think, I can do this and do that just like he can. Why is the man the human being who is first and has the power in society?' It is not that the man has to be powerful, no, but he has the power of position in the life of unity of souls. However, he will not be powerful if he is alone.
Clearly, the man's power will be complete if he is accompanied by a woman, just as a house, for example, has tiles or walls and a foundation. If the walls are there but there is no foundation, it is not a house. If there is a foundation but no walls, again it is not a house. So both partners are really one. If they are separated, they lack strength, 'what strength?' you may ask. The strength to know the life of the true human being. For example, suppose a man is already complete, and he wants to die, )death) will certainly be through the woman. For, human beings come also from a woman, but owe their existence to a man. So, from the man, the form is not yet that of a human being. Only after it is in the woman is there the form of a human being until the human being is born.
In reality, if a man behaves wrongly, like a man who fancies -in the language there, it's called thukmis ( philandering ) - every time he sees a woman, that is to say, plays with women, he will lose his way back to God, because he ruins his own path. On the other hand, a woman will not go along the right way as a human being descended from God if she does not meet a man who will really be the guide in her soul ( jiwa ).
That is why, in humanity or human society, the one who is really the teacher for a woman is the man. A woman, in serving her man not only needs to give him food and clothes for this world, but she needs to say, 'Take me, my husband, to heaven.' This being so, the man has a heavier task than the woman. Therefore, the woman should be able to influence the man so that he behaves and goes the right way. This is what exists and goes on according to God's will and in the spiritual life.
Those of you who are not yet married may wonder, for example, When will I be able to get it? My latihan is only like this, and like this. You yourselves will be able to know later, through the latihan. Of course, you cannot guess what God wills, but little by little, you will be able to test it yourselves. Bapak will now give a small example to illustrate. But, later on, like Bapak, even though not as much as Bapak, you will be able to receive for yourselves to some extent.
For example now, Debbie, how is your true partner...? One day, you will be able to receive yourselves. Bapak is now illustrating. Later you can do it yourselves. In the meantime, be patient. Patience, patience... Patience is the number one key for being able to receive quickly the growth of the soul ( jiwa ).
Now, as an example, Debbie, once more. When you are old, will you suffer, or not suffer, or half suffer...? Her house is big! So, later, things will always be indicated to you, beyond your expectation. You may wonder, How can I be rich? for example. You don't know. It is because God wills it so. Yes. Can you feel and understand this advice of Bapak's? And now, how should Miss Debbie be...? Study and worship God. For how many months or years . . . ? If, for example, you feel, Oh, that's a very long time, well, that's how it is.
Whoever wants to be happy must endure suffering. Whoever wants to be good must make sacrifices. If someone wants to earn a lot of money, he or she must be clever and willing to work. That is the cost. Supposing Bapak had not come here, that would have been wrong, because Bapak had to come here, like this. What Bapak received, God later gave. Yes, certainly, Bapak knew and received what God would give. How? From the latihan.
When Bapak was not yet as he is now, Bapak also did the latihan like you. In the beginning, Bapak said, 'Ow, ow, ow,' until he began to wonder, What does this mean? Then again, like this, and like that. But, at that time, Bapak just kept calm, because Bapak felt, Ah, this is not from my will. After a while, Bapak went like this, and like this, and walked up and down, and still wondered, What does this mean? But Bapak reasoned, Because this is instruction from God, it is not necessary for me to understand.
Before Bapak was purified by God, Bapak's receiver was still entirely a worldly receiver; so supposing God told him, 'That is heaven,' Bapak would have assumed heaven was like London or Paris, whereas it's not like that at all. How can heaven be the same as this world? If Bapak may illustrate: in this world, one cannot see more than the strength of the eye, but in heaven, one sees in front of one further than from this world to the sun. It is immeasurable, it cannot be compared to what exists in this world, so do not imagine that in heaven you will drink milk every day, and drink this and that, and eat delicious bread and see many beautiful operas there.
Later on, you will receive gradually, little by little, so that your receiving does not do you any harm. When God gives, there is certainly a place for it. God is Most Wise; God will give to someone so that he becomes good at writing, because he already has the ability. God gives a weapon to someone because that person is already able to use the weapon correctly. However useful the weapon, it would be disastrous if it were given to a small child.
If a very good book were given to a two-year-old or a three-year-old, it would not be kept in good condition, and read and understood; it would be torn and made into bundles. That is the reason why God does not give to you yet, children. In God's eyes, you are still small, children, and it is not yet the time for you to be given the real thing. Even the right thing would be wrong, that is, used wrongly, and you would do yourselves harm. That is why Bapak says, Step by step, little by little.
If you follow your will, you can go fast. You may use your ordinary worldly cleverness to the utmost, because its scope is only in your brain. But the instruction from God is beyond the human brain, and how can we use our ordinary instruments for that? Later, when you have progressed a little, you will be able to confirm what Bapak is saying. For now, just listen, but do not really believe it. Later, when you are able to experience it yourselves, then you can really believe it. One day, when you are lying down, you will unexpectedly feel you are lifted up, and then in that state you will feel the spiritual life. One day you will know how it is in the clouds, that is, when God wills it, because you will already be strong and your receiver will have the capacity. But if you experience this and you are not yet strong, you won't be able to come back. And who will get the blame for it? Well, Bapak, of course. Bapak will be blamed.
Receive and accept patiently whatever happens in this training ( latihan ). Then all will go smoothly and well, and later you will come to it by yourself. It was also like that for Bapak himself, and for Ibu, and Ismana. Ismana was not opened one night and singing the next, no. When she was opened, it was just the same as it was for you. I know; that is how it was.
This explanation of Bapak's is necessary for your training ( latihan ), and to encourage you to be patient and to be aware of the urging of passion that you always experience. As Bapak explained just now, if it comes from yourself, surely you yourself can control it. Train yourself, ( say, ) 'I can control myself, I can improve myself. I am the one who is able to improve everything.' You are more able to control it than not, especially in this, where you are helped or strengthened by receiving a power from within, that is, from God.
Forgive me, but Bapak himself for more than three or four years, whenever I saw Ibu, I did not like her at all, and I also couldn't stand the sight of other women. Why? It was because God willed it. If you have an urge, you can stop it, not just suppress it. You can stop anything that people usually cannot stop. Something else that Bapak experienced was that from 1932 to 1953, that is, about twenty years, I did not like to go to the cinema, or to go to see this and see that, whereas, before, I liked to go practically every night. It was because it was willed from the soul ( jiwa ). You will experience something like that yourselves, although every person's experience is different.
So, if you usually eat meat, sometimes for six months or three months you will not like to eat meat at all. Even the smell of meat will turn your stomach. That is also the training ( latihan ), and is willed by God, so that a human being can know how the animal force goes in and out of his inner feeling. Sometimes you won't be able to sleep for several nights, not because you are thinking a great deal, but because your eyes will not want to close. That is also a kind of latihan willed by God. Many things are experienced beyond one's understanding and quite unexpectedly, because this is not instruction from man, but instruction and guidance from God.
Now you have entered the school of God, children, not the school of man. Even though you only experience as you do now, it is worship of God, because it is willed by God. Even though it is still only like this, it is close to God because it is willed by God. But when you say, 'Oh God, forgive me!' even though you may feel that is how it should be, it is far away, because it is not necessarily God's will, but your own will.
What you are doing now will later come to the stage where it will look like this, and you will say spontaneously, 'God, forgive me for all the sins I have experienced and grant me the right way for my life so that I can come back to You.' That is better, because the words are willed by God, so that the one who uttered them just now uttered them because of God. Certainly, they reach God. In general, when people worship, they say, 'God,' but in fact this does not reach God. Bapak will give another illustration.
( Testing )
Where are God and His power - but, really, God is also His power, because God is the Almighty - if I want to know and understand...?
'I am speaking to you. I see all of you. I hear your voice. I feel ( . . .) I understand why you are here.' Finish. How was it?
The power of God is within man. God is closer to a human being than if he sees his own eyes. God is closer to a human being than when he thinks his own thoughts, God is closer to a human being than when he feels his own feelings. Therefore, God already knows when man does not yet know. It is said in the advice of the prophets that when a human being dies, at the instant of death, his heart is locked. Then the human being is asked before God, 'What did you do, and how was your behavior in the world?' The human being will not be able to deny what he or she has done in the world, because his or her heart has been locked. In reply, the hands themselves will answer by showing before God how they have always been in the habit of taking things that do not belong to them, or of hitting people. 'What did your hands do . . .?'
'Oh!' . . . ( Bapak laughs ) Yes! Then the eyes: 'What did you do in the world?' Since the heart has been locked, they keep looking at things that are not good. Every part of you will answer to God by showing what happened and what each experienced in the world. Everything will be known as clearly as by daylight. Then, 'Do you confess or not that you have sinned?' Of course, you admit it, because all the proofs and statements have made it clear. It is decreed: you are a sinner, you shall go to hell. Hell means that you are not put where a human being should be. If you enter the fire it is for ever. However much you scream and implore forgiveness, there will be no one to help you and you will not be forgiven, because you have sinned like that.
So it will be, to the last syllable of recorded time, until the disappearance of this earth, unless there is a descendant who is really able to worship God, so that the person can be freed from the state he is in. That is the reason why, if a person himself cannot, he should offer his child and tell him or her to worship in the true way. Even if the parent does not, the child can lift him or her. Thus, if all of you, children, reach the level of being able to worship God, your parents certainly will too, by themselves. One day you will know where the souls ( jiwa ) of your parents are. You will pity them, really, because some of them are in a hole, some are enclosed by stones, because of their wrong deeds that they cannot clean and they cannot understand, for they have not yet had a revelation from God.
These are explanations related to the spiritual life, to worship. Clearly, this training ( latihan ) you receive is really worship. This is worship. Of course, it is different from other ways, where the voice, as Bapak said before, asks God, but because it is from the heart, the words fall far away. But now, even though you only go like this and like that, it is close, because it is willed by God. Later, you will climb farther and farther, until you are able to understand and feel for yourselves. Try a little now. Be still, and as well as listening, try to receive a little. Be still as if you are doing the latihan, but you don't need to stand. If you have a wish to stand, restrain it.
( Testing )
I have eyes. I have two eyes. Where are they? Move the left one... Stop! Move the right one... Stop! Now move both of them... Now change them over, the right to the left and the left to the right... Stop. Now they become one... They go back to being two . . . They become one again... Two again... I have a nose. Where is my nose...? Breathe fast... Breathe slowly.., fast again... slowly again . . . Finish!
Could you feel it? You, and you? This is also a latihan, to confirm that all the members of your body need to be alive. Why do they need to be alive? Because God is life; because of God. Once you are already one human being, the head of the family of all your members, if your I enters heaven, it takes this self along. But if this is not yet alive, brought to life by God by way of the latihan that you receive, when you say, 'I am going to heaven,' the one who goes to heaven is only the voice that says I.
All this, the whole self, is left behind. How would you like to be rich, but only in your voice? How would you see the opera? Yes, that's how it is. Certainly, the whole self has to experience it, so let it not only be T who worships God, but T speaking for the body as a whole.
Please receive again. Begin. In my left breast there is movement... Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, Allah, God, God, God. Go on... The movement changes to the right one... God, God. Now both together... Stop. Could you feel it? Yes, finish!
Why is it that when Bapak says those words you feel it there? Why, when Bapak gives the word, is there a movement? It is because Bapak's speech is already one with the whole. But for you, it is not yet like that. Your speech is only speech, and everything else is separate. It is therefore necessary for this self to be exercised, so that it can all become alive, and become one, and that which is uttered is felt by the whole self. Again! ( Bapak laughs ) Yes, this is a little long! I have a mouth. I have lips. Where are my lips...? Where are my teeth...? Where is my tongue...? Laugh a little... Finish! ( Bapak laughs )
Yes, you will be more and more able to. I hope that you will become more and more able. But, please be patient. Do not think about it. That will mess things up, and you won't be able to receive. And, if necessary, because you may feel, Ah, it doesn't feel sincere if I don't say 'God'. May I? Yes, that is all right. You may pray as you usually do, as Christians, and say your prayers. That is quite all right. If you wish to, you may. Only, in reality, your words will not arrive. But this training ( latihan ) you receive, even though it is still only like this and like this, nevertheless arrives, because it is willed by God. Later on, you will receive many things in the training. You will be able to discover an understanding that feels like something new, a new event, that is, an understanding that God has made to grow in your soul.
This is the end of Bapak's explanation, children. How was it? Were you able to feel it? I will stop now. It has been too long. Yes, nearly two hours!
