The peace, blessings and grace of God be with you all! Brothers and sisters, with praise and thanks to the One Almighty God, Bapak and Ibu, together with their party and traveling companions, have arrived back safely in Indonesia and are able to meet with all of you again.
Bapak deliberately asked those of you who are here that word of his arrival should be kept somewhat of a secret, that is, should not be passed around, since it has been Bapak's experience that his arrival is always disturbed by journalists from every kind of newspaper and publication. And indeed, on Bapak's arrival here he has not been met by any representatives of the newspapers or the press, only by all of you who have come to meet him at the airport. Such is Bapak's homecoming.
Now, about Bapak's trip from Jakarta to London. On his arrival in London he was met by the members over there. Bapak had been invited by about thirteen people, twelve or thirteen, but those who actually did the inviting and carried the responsibility were about five or six, including Mr. Bennett who happens to be here with us now.
Truly it was completely unexpected that Bapak's presence in London at that time would capture the attention of the people there, but it came about by the grace of the One Almighty God, who knows the situation of human beings, and of course also knows that with this journey Bapak was following God's will, as he had earlier received it.
In London, Bapak stayed at first in a place that was not very large. Here, about ten to fifteen members came and asked to be opened and to follow the latihan. Not long after that, however, because of the efforts and wish of Mr. Bennett, who is with us here, Bapak was asked to stay in his house, Coombe Springs. After he arrived there, as time went on, more and more new members were opened. It is amazing that in a very short time not less than six to seven hundred men and women were opened by us, by Bapak and Ibu and the rest of the party.
And how did it go? What happened to these new members who were opened? Bapak calls it truly astonishing that their progress was very fast. If seen, considered or thought about from the external point of view, it would indeed seem to be impossible, but Bapak is sure that it happened because of God's will. By His will, in a very short time, the members there were able to have many experiences and gain much knowledge and become very diligent .in doing their latihan.
Bapak wants to explain that there was latihan there almost every evening, and sometimes even during the day a lot of people came wanting to do the latihan. And those coming to be opened and to do latihan were not only from the area around London, but also from far away, as much as five or six hundred miles away from London or from Coombe Springs. Because of their dedication and their wish to be able to know and worship in a real way, in a way that they longed for, the difficulty of making the journey was not a consideration. Well, this is just a picture; Bapak is not making a comparison with those of you here, he is just describing what actually took place, what he actually experienced.
After Bapak had been in Coombe Springs and London for three or four months many of those who came from far away also asked Bapak to visit their areas, which finally he did. Bapak went along with these requests, and the first place he visited after London was Holland. At that time Bapak had not yet received any bad news and everything was going well. Because of this, he went to Holland feeling happy and without anything on his mind.
In Holland Bapak stayed in the house of Mr. Tjalsma. It was actually Mr. Tjalsma and Dr. Ir Thorenaar who had invited him there. In Holland Bapak also received many Dutch people asking to be opened and given latihan.
Regarding the attitude of Dutch people - well, understandably, there were still traces of the past. The first time he went there a condescending attitude towards Bapak was still apparent, because he was seen as belonging to a country that used to be under their rule. But through the grace of Almighty God, which always protects Bapak wherever his journey takes him and whatever kind of people his daily situation requires him to face, sooner or later these people realized that Bapak had not come there of his own wish. They realized that Bapak's coming to develop Subud was not from his own desire, not from thinking or wishing, but because of the power of God, because of God's will, and that Bapak only follows whatever is God's will, which Bapak must always obey.
Among the Dutch people that Bapak opened, there was one who related that before he followed this latihan of Subud, about ten or twelve years before, he had heard a story from an association that was not very large - a spiritual association or movement, I don't know if it was Theosophy or something similar. It was said or foretold in that association - it is not Bapak who is saying this, no, in fact he is rather embarrassed to say it -that there would come to Holland a great teacher, actually referred to as Teacher of the World, who would open and provide a path for humankind towards the true direction willed by God. That is how the Dutchman related it, while Bapak just listened.
In Holland it can be said that the people were no less diligent with their latihan than the members in London. Although Bapak was only there for one and a half months, one could see that the members there were almost like members here who have been doing latihan for at least one and a half years. Well, the difference is not because of here or there, not because of place, but because over there they probably thought like this, 'Bapak is from Indonesia, so he is only here for a short time, so if I am not truly active, truly diligent, there will not be enough time to obtain what I hope for.'
Whereas in Indonesia, one can say that you are not Bapak's stepchildren but his own children, so here you think, 'Oh well, Bapak is here anyway, we don't need to be diligent, sooner or later we'll be able to do it.' Yes, that's how it is, it's not really an illness, just a habit. Yes, a habit. Indeed, it is true everywhere not just here, and also in former times, that a sign or teacher was not recognized or honored in their own country, but would be recognized and celebrated in another country. There is a well-known saying to this effect, I forget how it goes. So this kind of thing is not strange, not impossible - that is really what happens.
Bapak already received much earlier - in 1932 in fact, before he stopped his ordinary work in an office - that there would be a very big war. Besides this, Bapak was also shown that Indonesia would be free, would no longer be under the Dutch. And after the big war was over, then his opportunity would come, the opportunity to travel abroad -'to go around the world'- Bapak was told.
At the time that Bapak received it, he found it hard to really believe it. Since it was a gift that Bapak received, not from his heart or desire, but because of God's will, it was clear that this information or knowledge was from the One who created Bapak, the One who has authority over Bapak. It would be wrong if Bapak did not believe it, but to just believe it seemed rather impossible.
Firstly, Bapak did not have knowledge like other people such as those who have degrees like MD, Doctor, Master, Engineer and so on, because Bapak only came from an ordinary school, not a high one - like the fleas in the chair. His education was very humble. Secondly, Bapak was not a rich person. So it was quite impossible that Bapak could go abroad and around the world, quite impossible. Therefore Bapak believed it and also did not believe it; he did not believe it and also believed it.
Finally I thought to myself, 'Well, eventually I shall find out.' 'Yes, you will find out.'
'Yes, I will find out.'
The proof of what Bapak had received would be shown later.
And truly - not long after that, as the 1940s approached, there was already news of war, which finally became the last war, normally referred to as the Second World War, so that things happened quickly, and Bapak does not need to tell you about the arrival of the Japanese and so on. Finally Indonesian independence became a reality.
In fact it was told to me at that time that, although our country would gain its independence, it would experience for quite some time something that would not yet be considered satisfying, not yet that which all of you would wish for, in other words well-being, true freedom, prosperity and contentment, or as is said in Javanese, not yet pasir wukir, lob jinawi It is not that, not yet.
Indeed, it is hard to decipher the words 'for quite some time' that were said to me.' For quite some time' is difficult to interpret. If you say 'for some time' that could mean, say, two or three years, but the word 'quite' - it could be a little longer, it could be less, it could be more, so Bapak cannot really interpret this. Nevertheless, you can feel reasonably satisfied, because eventually it will come.
After independence arrived, Bapak had already moved to Jogjakarta. In Jogja Bapak was not yet able to do any work, because he was still awaiting the right time. Bapak waited, asking himself if the moment had arrived yet or not.
'Am I supposed to go abroad alone, shall I just do it?'
Then Bapak received, 'That is not allowed. Later there will be a way for you, not because you wish for it, not because you know what is to come, and not because of your intention; the path will open up by itself for you in a way that you yourself do not expect.'
And this proved true. At that time a foreigner came wishing to follow the latihan and finally Bapak opened him, a Mr. Rofe, and he followed the latihan. According to his own story, Husein Rofe had already traveled extensively in Egypt, Morocco, Tehran and in Asia, and had already met many teachers from movements such as the Nakshibendi and so on. But said he still did not feel satisfied.
After meeting Bapak and being opened by him, he finally received whatever he received, and he felt somewhat satisfied, although the satisfaction he experienced was not yet truly what is required in the spiritual life. He was, however, somewhat satisfied since it already exceeded and was more convincing than what he had experienced up to that time.
After following this latihan for a while, he felt he should not be in Jogja any longer and he wanted to leave Jogja. He asked Bapak's advice where he should go now, since he no longer felt right in Jogja. Bapak suggested he should first go to Palembang.
Bapak will make this part of the story short; actually he is only telling you this because it connects back to the main story later. After reaching Palembang, Rofe also opened people, having obtained Bapak's permission. Although properly speaking Rofe was not yet ready to open people, nevertheless Bapak saw that it was necessary to open a way so that Bapak could come there later. So he opened quite a few people in Palembang, and finally Bapak came to Palembang himself.
Then Rofe went to Hong Kong, from Hong Kong to Japan, from Japan to Cyprus, and back to London, where he finally met Mr. Bennett, and together they invited Bapak there. That is the story of Bapak's arrival in London as a result of the effort of the members, including Mr. Rofe, who is now in Cyprus.
Now Bapak will return to when he was in Holland. Many of those following the latihan there had been well-known figures in Indonesia. There was one who had been a Resident ( an administrative position under the Dutch Administration ), and someone who had been the head of Djawatan Boswezen ( Du.: Department of Forestry ), Dr. Ir Bernard.
Because of their dedication and diligence in doing their latihan, in the space of only one and a half months, Bapak could already entrust them with opening new members. And now new members are already being opened over there by Dr. Ir Thorenaar together with two or three other helpers.
Bapak was in Holland for one and a half months, as he said just now. Bapak then went back to London. He did not have the opportunity to go to any other country from Holland because London still required his presence for the time being. Bapak was in London for about one and a half to two months, then received an invitation from Germany.
Bapak does not remember the date he left, suffice it to say that after receiving this invitation, he departed for Munich in Germany. There Bapak also met and opened a lot of new members, among them many professors and people with doctorates.
Why did such people as these professors and doctors come to follow the latihan? Because they had been searching, had experienced and studied spiritual matters, but in the end had not found real results. With this latihan of Subud they found the reality, with the result that they were truly active, truly obedient to the latihan and their worship of the One Almighty God through this spiritual path of Subud.
Besides those who followed and received the latihan, Bapak opened and did latihan with people who were sick and were looking for a cure. Bapak fulfilled their request, but with the reply or explanation that Subud is not a group or association that cures sick people, but actually a spiritual association for the worship of Almighty God. By worshipping in this way the coarse body as well as the soul will become healthy again. In this way, as time went on, more and more people entered Subud and followed the spiritual training.
Bapak was in Munich for about two months. The people he opened who followed the latihan were about two hundred in number, but those who came regularly or who were really diligent numbered about one hundred men and women.
And before it was time for Bapak to leave there, he had already received an invitation from Switzerland. So Bapak left Germany briefly to open people and hold latihans in Switzerland, with the intention of going back to Munich to continue with the latihan there.
In Switzerland, Bapak opened people and did latihan with them initially in Zurich, where, again, many people also followed the latihan. If we count the number of people who came, were opened and did latihan, there were about one hundred and fifty, but about seventy or eighty were really diligent in doing their latihan .
And from Zurich Bapak went on, still in Switzerland, to St. Gallen. And in St. Gallen there were also many people who showed interest in Subud, so that around seventy or eighty men and women followed the latihan. Before Bapak's time in St. Gallen was finished, Bapak received an invitation from Bern, from the Indonesian ambassador there, Mr. Subardjo.
The invitation was not a request to be opened or to be given latihan, but just to meet and get to know Bapak, and Mr. Subardjo was willing to send his car to St. Gallen for him. Bapak complied with this request and so went to Bern. In Bern, he answered a lot of questions about this and that, with the result that finally Subardjo asked to be opened, he himself, his wife, children and staff. In talking he said, 'It's so amazing that I have only just come across and received this now, and only here. How is it that I did not know about this before? Did Bapak not advertise Subud or talk about it over there ( in Indonesia )?'
'Oh, no, I just kept quiet. I don't need to advertise or publicize it, because I trust in the greatness of God. God will awaken the inner heart, the feeling of humankind, which truly wishes to worship and believe in the existence of God and the will of God.'
Bapak could not stay there a long time, only two or three days, and Mr. Subardjo could only have latihan two or three times, so the experience could not yet be said to be truly clear, truly satisfying, but he said he could already genuinely feel that this was the real thing.
After two or three days there Bapak returned to St. Gallen, and continued holding latihans and opening people there. Finally he returned to London via Paris in France. At that moment Bapak also received an invitation from Austria. Because he had already promised that he would return to London at that time, Bapak was forced to postpone the Austrian invitation until next year.
In Paris Bapak just looked around. Bapak did not open anyone because he had not planned to open anyone there or stay there except very briefly, as he had promised to go back to London. Indeed in France there were already four to five hundred men and women waiting to be opened. In Paris alone, there were three hundred or so men and women. So if Bapak had followed their wishes, had responded to their invitations, maybe Bapak would not yet have returned to Indonesia.
In fact Bapak felt that the longer the time he spent over there, the better it would have been. But you know how it is, human beings normally think of this and that and Ibu always thinks about her children and grandchildren, so we finally came back here first - we can easily go back there again later. Bapak felt he had to come back. Yes, leepelesa dewe ( Jav.: force majeure )!
In Paris we just took a look around - Bapak does not need to tell you how crowded and busy that city is, that's a story for another time. Next time we meet Bapak can tell you about all the cars and trains they have there, and icy places where people do a lot of skiing - now it would take too much time.
So Bapak returned to London, and in London they were waiting for him to open around three hundred more people. Once again Bapak was opening thirty, twenty, forty, fifty members every night of the week. So it can be said that Bapak was working very hard indeed in London and Europe, compared with here where it is just twice a week. Here Bapak gives talks at most once a month. Over there it was sometimes three times in two weeks. There was even one place where during one week Bapak gave a talk every night. But thanks to the power of God, the grace of God, despite such a schedule Bapak was just normal, he did not suffer or lack anything. For that Bapak truly gives sincere praise and thanks to the grace of God, which has constantly protected Bapak and his journey.
After being in London about two months and opening not less than three hundred people, there came a letter of invitation from America. In fact, the first invitation was not from San Francisco but from New York. But since the invitation from New York did not arrive as quickly as that from San Francisco, Bapak gave preference to the first one to arrive. Well, of course Bapak gave priority to the invitation from San Francisco, because it arrived earlier than the one from New York.
So after leaving London Bapak went to America. Bapak stayed overnight in New York only because the plane could not carry on due to bad weather. In fact people were quite sick during the landing because the plane was going like this ( gestures .) Whereas usually Ibu only vomited once or twice, this time she threw up everything in her stomach. So while in the air Bapak was not only experiencing the plane itself, but the discomfort of Ibu who kept vomiting. Well, that's a picture of how tough the trip was for our party.
We spent the night in New York, and of course they wanted to keep Bapak there. 'Bapak, why not stay a week or so here, why be in such a hurry?' Well if I had agreed to this, one week would have become two, two weeks would have become one month, and so on. But because New York was behind San Francisco, Bapak was obliged to move on as quickly as possible. So finally they agreed and Bapak left New York for San Francisco.
Before arriving in San Francisco, while still in London, Bapak had heard a lot of stories that people in America were rather coarse, not polite like the people in London. It is not that Bapak is extolling the virtues of the English people, but in fact, generally speaking, the English are almost the same as we are here in terms of customs and behavior, though not in terms of needs. Here our needs are much less than theirs.
Bapak heard all this, and Rofe had even written a letter to him saying, 'Why does Bapak go to America? Why not just to Beirut, Pakistan or Palestine, to Lebanon and then on to Teheran in Persia? The people there are more inclined towards, or are closer to Indonesian customs than Americans are. American people are crude, coarse. They won't pay any attention to Bapak there.'
And that's quite true, it is like that seen from an outer point of view. But Bapak believes in God's power, and God has told Bapak, 'Wherever you are, not only human beings, but even animals will regard you as their brother or parent'. Bapak has had constant proof of this. To be honest, after Bapak came to San Francisco, the first night that Bapak held latihan, they jostled him - it wasn't pleasant. When Bapak arrived, they just said: 'Hi', so he replied 'Ooi', just like them. In general, over there they do not differentiate between old and young. 'Hullo!'- Bapak also said 'Hullo? just like them.
So after arriving there Bapak started to open people. At first there were not many, but later, suddenly there were a lot of people. Yes, actually, I should explain that on his trip to America Bapak was accompanied by Mr. Bennett, who happens to be here now. Really, Mr. Bennett has done a tremendous amount of work for Subud. Indeed maybe God has willed it to be so, because Bapak had already received this, 'Later you will be accompanied by someone who really knows how things are over there because he is from there'. That is what I was told. So, who would this be? It was even confirmed for me by Ibu: 'I have already seen this man before.
''Where?'
'In latihan.'
'Oh, yes, that's right then.'
So Ibu had already seen Mr. Bennett.
Mr. Bennett truly gave all his considerable energy, although he is already getting on in age. Yes, over sixty is already elderly compared with those of you who are still young. Compared with the young among you, Mr. Bennett's willingness to work is truly above average, out of the ordinary. Bapak even reminded him, 'Mr. Bennett, since you are already old, you have to remember that you sometimes need to rest'.
That is why Bapak brought him here, so that right away he can rest for one week. Rest is really good for all of you, but it seems that Mr. Bennett considers it empty or boring. Well, that is Mr. Bennett's nature, he really likes to work, and for that reason Bapak restrains him a little. So what Bapak wants is that Mr. Bennett should have a complete rest here for one week.
In America, Mr. Bennett was working very hard, just like Bapak, with the result that in a short time around two hundred and fifty men and women were opened and given latihan. And then what happened? It was truly amazing. Many of those so-called coarse people had tears in their eyes when Bapak left. So it is clear that however fierce a creature is, especially a human being, if God wills it, that creature will bow down by himself, of his own will.
That is why it is really necessary and really appropriate for you to believe that the greatness of God, the power of God, always envelops and surrounds everything, both within the human self as well as outside, in all directions. So that all creation, both the visible and the invisible, is always encompassed by God's power, which can truly be experienced by all of you if you have reached the required level.
So Bapak was in America, in San Francisco, for around one month and ten days, although they asked Bapak to stay two months. If Bapak had agreed to their request - two months in San Francisco and another two months in Los Angeles, that is, four months - Bapak would certainly not be back in Indonesia today. So after one month and ten days Bapak left San Francisco and continued his journey to Los Angeles, to the city of Hollywood, which all of you, including your children, have heard talked about so often - Hollywood, the city of film stars.
Certainly all of you here have heard that Bapak met and constantly saw film stars. Well that's true, but only on the news, because in reality Bapak was not completely free while he was abroad, since his movements were always being followed, always being spied on by people from the press.
I'll tell you a story. One evening when Bapak was in London, everybody had already gone, there was only me. It was eleven o'clock at night. One of our members, a lord or aristocrat, I don't even remember his name, arrived rather furtively, wanting to meet Bapak. So Bapak obliged him, and then he went home.
( Bapak asked ) 'Why are you in a hurry?'
'I don't want to be caught by the newspapermen.'
Well, in the morning there was already an article, 'Last night at ten thirty, lord so-and-so came for an interview with Bapak. He came and left secretively.' My goodness, it's different there from here. You can really call them newshounds. Bapak tells you this in passing.
After leaving San Francisco, Bapak went to Los Angeles, to Hollywood. There the progress and number of people were no less than in San Francisco. In a period of one month and ten days - I made it the same so that the members in San Francisco should not feel jealous - there were also around two hundred and fifty people. But there was not one film star among them.
Why were there none? Actually Bapak wished that there had been. Because as good as it is and as exemplary as it is for us, for human beings, to show the right way to good people and improve their behavior, it is even better and more exemplary if we show the right way to people whose lifestyle and behavior is in fact not good. It is told in all the religious books that much grace, much blessing, much good fortune and many gifts from God are given to a person who shows the right path to whoever has not yet found it or does not yet own it.
But the members there whom Bapak appointed as chairpersons or committee members, advised that it would be better to wait, since if the group there consisted mainly of film stars, Subud Los Angeles would become known as Subud of the film stars. Bapak felt there was some truth in this, so in the end it was not film stars who came into Subud but people from the church. Well, that is also good, so Bapak just left it to them.
Indeed, if Bapak had opened the way, for example, and a lot of film stars had come, I don't know whether you would be happy or not. But if the news came that two or three famous film stars such as Monroe - what's her name - Marilyn, had joined Subud -'Marilyn just joined!' - the young members would be happy, but not the older ones.
While Bapak was still there, his plan was that after Los Angeles he would return to Indonesia. So Bapak announced that by the end of May, yes May, at the latest before the end of May, he would already have returned to Indonesia. However, then there came an invitation from Australia, from Sydney, which arrived suddenly with a fervent request that Bapak should not just pass overhead in the plane, but at least should come down for a cup of tea.
'Well, all right. And Mr. Bennett, you don't mind coming down there with us?'
Mr. Bennett said, 'All right.'
'Mr. Bennett, why not come with us all the way.'
'What, all the way?'
'Yes, after ( Australia ) you might as well go on. From there you will certainly pass through Indonesia, won't you? In Indonesia you can visit...'
'Oh yes, I'd like that. I would like to see Borobudur.'
'Yes, Borobudur is worth seeing.'
So without feeling any compulsion, Bapak fulfilled the request of the people in Sydney and Bapak went there.
Australia, or the Australians, are rather amazing, because their culture is really the same as that of people in England. Yes, it can be said that Americans are also English, many of them, but there are also many there who are not English, so it is a kind of senenjong ( Jav.: elements of good quality, but mixed at random ), so it becomes - how do you say - a hotchpotch, some are good, some are not. In Australia, on the other hand, by and large people are very goodhearted.
In the space of only ten, eh, I mean eight, no, nine days, there were almost four hundred people ( opened ), and they were what we call 'addicted', they were so happy. Well, nine or ten days became like eighteen days, yes, not only nine evenings, but ( Bapak had to work ) during the day also. So the visitors arrived day and night, day and night. Talks were given every night, so every night Bapak .just drank Coca-Cola, as he talked non-stop. And after that, when they realized that Bapak would be leaving them in nine days, they still wanted to bargain.
'Bapak, don't leave after only nine days, stay another week'.
'Oh, I'm afraid the telegram has already gone, what about the poor people coming to meet us at the airport? We are going to be met. If it was just me I would stay another five days, no problem. Be patient, Bapak is willing to return.'
'When? In three months time?'
'Oh no! In February 1959 Bapak needs to come again.' 'Really Bapak?' 'Yes, really.'
'Gosh, that's a long time. How many days, how many months?' 'Well, about eight months.' 'Why so long?'
'It seems long to you, but our being away may have seemed too long to the members in Indonesia'.
'Oh, yes.'
Now Bapak has children there, Bapak has children here, you are all the same. So Bapak has already, not exactly signed a contract, but already promised he will leave here again in February 1959. So he will be here for eight months.
But Bapak has already conceded the principle, has already decided for himself, that, no matter what, Bapak is God's instrument, so he will follow whatever is requested of him. Such is Bapak's ( life's ) journey, Bapak's work, which is different from the ordinary. So that Bapak has become a manongan ( Jav. ) - do you know what manon-gan means? It means someone who is constantly on the move, someone whose life is wandering.
But for Bapak it is pleasant; not the unpleasant kind of wandering. The reason why Bapak says it is pleasant is because wherever he goes he meets his children. He doesn't just meet his brothers and sisters, but his children. Bapak is not looking for people to work for him. No. But every morning somebody would come, 'Bapak, what chores need doing?' 'What kind of chores?' 'Whatever I'm given'.
'There are no chores. I can do them all myself.'
'Is there no other kind of work?'
Bapak himself as far as possible gives whatever shirts he has to Ibu, so she can wash them herself. But when Ibu wants to wash them they won't let her.
'Well, what about these dirty things here, Bapak? They should be washed as quickly as possible, shouldn't they?'
So, in short, this is not just the behavior of children, not just of brothers or sisters, but true devotion, the kind of love and care one gets from one's own parents. Wherever Bapak went it was like that.
After being in Australia for nine days Bapak returned here. But before that, he sent a message to his children who are here, asking them not to inform too many members, because passing from mouth to mouth it will finally reach the mouths of the press, that is certain. And if it gets there, it will be no different from other places.
For example, in Australia, the press were so pushy. On Bapak's arrival, he could not even move forward because of the constant picture-taking by photographers. If Bapak wanted to go here, snap! If Bapak wanted to go there, snap! Wah! It's very odd. It is not that Bapak was afraid of being photographed, he just got fed up with it. And it was like that everywhere.
This is why here Bapak is only talking to those of you who came to meet him. Bapak thanks you very much for the attention and sincerity of all of you who came to meet him together with Mr. Bennett and Bapak's party. And so finally Bapak has been able to meet with all of you tonight for the first time and give you something of a picture about Bapak's journey during the year that he has been travelling abroad in other countries.
This is the picture that Bapak can give you of his journey. Bapak needs to add that he opened and did latihan with over two thousand people. And those two thousand people, as Bapak visited them in their own countries, of course Bapak advised them that they should establish associations, which are properly organized, which conform with local practices and do not contravene the laws of their respective countries.
So Bapak gives autonomy to each country to establish Subud as a national entity, to avoid any problems. What is contained in Subud only represents or symbolizes worship of Almighty God, which actually cannot be organized. So the organization only covers or extends to administration of the usual things in human life, or what is called the outer world. Worship of God cannot be organized; God is Almighty, how could He be submitted to organization? He cannot be. Therefore our worship of God is truly free, between human being and God, between creature and God.
So that is Bapak's account, explanation or picture of what he has experienced during the past year. Bapak will end his talk here for the moment since it is already time, otherwise we will have to rush, because they say there will be an air exercise. So it is only left for Bapak to ask all of you, his children, to forgive Bapak that the talk is so short. With this, Bapak thanks you all.
